The sister of the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman’s Blue restaurant, Le Bernardin, has just been rated number one in New York City as an overall restaurant and for its food.
This impressive rating was bestowed on the seafood restaurant in the latest edition of Zagat Survey for NYC – the 2007 edition – which has just been released. In fact, this is the second year in a row that this guide has given these two top ratings to the restaurant, and it has gained best food a number of other times in the past also.
‘Basically Zagat’s is the restaurant bible,’ explained Melissa Ladley, Communications Director of the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
She explained that for this survey, diners do the ratings of different restaurants’ food, décor, ambiance, service and all that goes with a good restaurant.
Le Bernardin got number one as an overall restaurant and also got number one for its food out of all other restaurants in the Big Apple.
Zagat Survey 2004 says of Le Bernardin, ‘Neptune’s choice for a fabulous fish splurge, Maguy LeCoze’s (owner) merveilleux Midtown French temple takes your breath away thanks to genius chef Eric Ripert’s sublime, inventive food (ranked No. 1 in our Survey), impeccable service and ethereal surroundings’.
What links NYC’s Le Bernardin, and the Ritz-Carlton’s Blue and indeed Periwinkle is that award-winning Chef Eric Ripert is behind their culinary delights.
Under his direction, Le Bernardin, where he became chef in 1994, has been named the number one restaurant in New York and earned the coveted Michelin three-star designation in the company’s first rating of New York’s restaurants.
‘When we get visitors from the New York area they all know about the connection between Blue and Le Bernardin,’ said Mrs. Ladley.
And for those visitors who may not be aware of the connection, it is to go on the hotel’s own special channel which should be up and running in hotel rooms for high season.
A couple of weeks back, Richard Brower, Chef de Cuisine at Blue by Eric Ripert was in NYC honing his skills with Mr. Ripert.
Something to look forward to at Blue is the new bar menu where small plates can be ordered, so residents and guests can have a more affordable taste of what Blue has to offer.
