There is an undercurrent of electrified excitement throughout the Cayman Islands this week as the start of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association Conference draws near.
The conference, which begins next Tuesday, will be a chance for the Cayman Islands to put its best face forward.
And while districts are being spruced up for the occasion, workers at Boatswain’s Beach are scurrying about at a frenetic pace making sure Cayman’s newest and impressive tourist attraction is ready for the world to see what it offers.
Boatswain’s Beach, the new home to the Cayman Turtle Farm, has been open for several months, receiving visitors and residents who have been able to leisurely shop at the gift store and tour the turtle tanks.
But when Boatswain’s opens 1 November – a week and a day away – exciting new features will be on offer including snorkel lagoons, an aviary, a nature trail, Caymanian street, shoreline nursery and eventually a predator tank.
The historic Caymanian streetscape will showcase traditional buildings featuring distinctive Cayman-designed porches, windows, doorways and gardens. The porches will feature a variety of Caymanian arts and crafts, music and storytelling. Each path and street is named in keeping with the Caymanian theme and local history.
This street will allow visitors to explore the Cayman of yesterday and immerse themselves within the distinct culture and heritage that is very much Caymanian.
That’s why Boatswain’s Beach will be the perfect place for Caymanians and residences. By taking in the Caymanian streetscape we can relive or learn about all things Caymanian.
Boatswain’s Beach overseers are to be commended for giving Caymanians and residents a price break of half off the US$60 gate fee.
For visitors from other parts of the world we think the US$60 price tag is good value for money, especially when compared to other attractions in the Cayman Islands, throughout the region and indeed throughout the world.
