On a hot lazy Saturday morning, around 10.30am, on my way to the Expo show, sitting in bumper to bumper, westbound diverted traffic at Grand Harbour roundabout, the peace and tranquility of the day was shattered when two police cars with lights flashing and sirens wailing attempted to force a pristine white Jaguar X-series sedan out of the stationary traffic line.
After two or three minutes the Jaguar chose to pull out of the line and proceeded to race past the stationary cars in an attempt to escape, with the two police cars on his tail.
A third police car, also with lights flashing and siren wailing, traveling the opposite direction, attempted to block his escape at the old Crewe road junction.
Skillfully avoiding the police blockade by heading into the grass verge, the Jaguar dodged the oncoming police car and took off down the South Sound road heading west with all three police cars in hot pursuit. A further attempt to box the Jaguar in was unsuccessful due to skilful maneuvering by the suspect.
The chase continued down Walkers road where the suspect was finally successfully forced off the road onto a private drive in the Webster’s estate area.
The driver was apprehended, cuffed and removed from the scene. There was visible damage to the sides of the Jaguar and at least one of the police cars from contact during the chase.
I proceeded to go home and watch Cops on TV.
