Worshipfest on tap

Heaven 97 will be celebrating nine years of broadcasting Christian music in the Cayman Islands this Saturday.

The radio station is hosting Worshipfest 2006, at the Lions Centre, featuring Gospel recording artist Israel Houghton and his 14 member band New Breed.

Israel, considered a forerunner and architect of cross-cultural worship, last performed in the Cayman Islands at event March for Jesus in the late 1990s.

He has written hundreds of songs for the church worldwide and is an award winning producer and arranger. The gospel artist also serves as a worship leader at Lakewood Church in Houston with Pastor Joel Osteen.

The event, from 7pm, will also feature Jamaican gospel artist Junior Tucker.

Born in Trench Town, Jamaica, Junior Tucker started his singing career as a reggae artist. For 25 years he toured the world and held several international recording contracts. In 1997 Junior turned to Christianity and has since set the gospel stage alight. As well as an acclaimed singer he also serves as a worship leader at New Harvest Church in Clewiston, Florida.

Master of Ceremonies for the night will be Jamie Thomas.

Tickets cost $20 pre-sold available from Fosters, Funky Tangs and Christian Enlightment Centre. Admission costs $25 at the gate. Tickets for children under 12 cost $5.
