In celebration of the finer things in life, the Ritz is hosting its annual Teddy Bear Tea from 2-4pm each Saturday and Sunday until 23rd December.

Held in the elegant surroundings of the Silver Palm Lounge with its vaulted ceiling and plush seating, the tea party is the perfect setting for a memorable pre-Christmas treat.

Harking back to the more genteel age of finger sandwiches, herbal teas and mouthwatering pastries, the unhurried charm of the tea is rivaled only by Santa and storytelling for younger guests.

Father Christmas and his elves are close at hand and are happy to pose with smaller guests in the life-sized gingerbread house. The Hansel and Gretel type structure, decorated with real sweets, is also where youngsters can enjoy a post-tea tale or two by the resident storyteller – allowing accompanying adults a few moments of grace.

From the moment you’re valet parked, the uniformed doorman welcomes you and table service begins, you’ll be transported into teddy bear heaven.

The tea party’s sumptuous menu offers an impressive range of mouthwatering finger sandwiches including chocolate and banana rolled in soft white bread, mini chicken salad wraps and smoked salmon and shrimp pinwheels.

Hot scones, wrapped in linen napkins to keep them warm, are also in plentiful supply there to be filled with clotted cream, lemon curd or butter.

And if you’ve saved enough room, indulge a little in the light mini pastries whipped up by the Ritz’s cordon bleu chefs. Other tempting treats include the ladybug raspberry macaroons, the caterpillar tea cakes and the chocolate dipped strawberries.

Champagne (CI$10 a glass) and champagne cocktails (CI$15) are an added indulgence for adults as is the hot chocolate which is a particular favourite of younger guests.

With the food taken care of, the other treat which adds to the afternoon of leisure is the harp playing of holiday favourites.

Oh and if all this wasn’t enough, all younger guests get to take home one special keepsake.

Each child gets to choose a teddy from filled heaps of luxury bears in all shapes and sizes. They make a charming memento of a wonderful afternoon putting on the Ritz.

For C$35 for adults and CI$25 for children. To make a reservation call 943-9000.
