With two decades of service to the Public Works Department already under his belt, Robert Wiggan added Employee of the Year at the department’s recent Christmas dinner.
‘After 20 years, it’s really nice to be recognised by my peers,’ he said.
For his achievement, Cayman Airways gave him two tickets to Fort Lauderdale, and Cable & Wireless gave him a gold Dolce & Gabbana Motorola V3i Razr.
Mr. Wiggan was awarded Employee of the Year as part of PWD’s employee rewards and recognition programme. He is one of four PWD employees who first took home quarterly awards, stated a press release.
In January 2006, Lead Electrician Kenneth Wood took home the first quarterly award, followed by Mr. Wiggan, a mason, in April; Ms Mae Rankin from finance and administration in July; and Operations and Works Foreman Allen Ramos in December.
According to PWD’s Human Resources Manager Benjamin Waysome, the programme is primarily designed to recognise and reward employees for exceptional performance.
‘It really is a motivational tool,’ he added. ‘Our ultimate goal is to promote excellence and efficiency amongst our employees.’
Mr. Waysome also thanked Cayman Airways, and Cable & Wireless for their donation of prizes to the programme.
Selection of winners involves nomination by peers, who must outline their reasons for selecting a particular individual. Nominations are then evaluated by a committee of fellow non-managerial employees, based upon set criteria and a point system, the release said.
