Parents and guardians are asked to note that as of Monday Red Bay Primary school students will no longer be permitted to remain on the school compound after 4.40pm on school days.
This new move by school authorities is a response to the growing trend by some parents and guardians of collecting students sometimes as late as 7pm and is being instituted primarily to safeguard the health and well-being of the child.
Principal Vickie Frederick explained that this action has had to be taken because children are especially vulnerable during this unsupervised time and can be bullied, get into fights or have minor accidents, as has happened in the past.
‘Generally speaking after a full day at school, it is in the child’s best interest to be collected promptly from school so that they can rest, eat, do homework and safely play and interact with their families in their home environment.’
Parents have already been informed of the new regulation, which school authorities hope will encourage parents and guardians to become more responsible and accountable where their children are concerned.
