Contest aims to shed pounds

It’s round two to find the biggest loser in Cayman.

Sports Supply is holding its second-annual Biggest Loser competition, a two-month weight loss contest designed to help people shed pounds – and stick with their New Year’s resolutions.

‘We’re trying to help people continue with that quest,’ said Keith Mandish, General Manager at Sports Supply in Galleria Plaza.

‘We want to help Cayman get healthy.’

There are other incentives as well. The person who sheds the highest percentage of weight during the two-month period wins a $1,000 shopping spree at Sports Supply. Second prize is $500 and third prize $250.

The competition kicks off 3 March at the store where contestants will weigh-in. Personal trainers and nutritionists will be on hand that day to give advice and information. Participants can sign up before the official kick-off during store hours from 10am to 7pm.

‘Anyone can come in and sign up – there’s no cost all,’ said Group Store Manager Ales Cevela.

The final weigh-in on 5 May will determine who will claim the title of biggest loser.

Last year’s contest drew around 150 participants, with Jeff Alban winning the title of biggest loser after dropping 37 pounds.

Mr. Cevela is hoping the corporate community will get involved this year by organising friendly weight-loss competitions between firms that could also serve as charity fundraisers.

He said the contest aims to spur people on to commit to get fit.

‘We figure a lot of people need a little push to keep their New Year’s resolutions.’
