Sailing goes East

Stuart Jennings sails a Butterfield Bank-sponsored Byte to victory in the Byte sailing class race in the recent Captain Leroy Watson regatta in East End.

The event was named in memory of Capt Watson, a sea captain from East End who died tragically last year.

It was sponsored by Cayman Medical Supplies and run by Donald McLean and the Cayman Islands Sailing Club (CISC).

The club hopes it will become an annual event, most likely to be held over the Heroes Day weekend. One of the great benefits is that the event brings the sport of sailing out of its traditional Red Bay home to the eastern districts.

“The Cayman Islands Sailing Club was very happy to support the Capt Leroy Watson Regatta in East End. The change of venue made the racing challenging and fun. We look forward to bringing more boats and sailors to next year’s event,” said Michael Weber, Sailing Director of the CISC.

The results of the two classes of races were as follows:

Laser Class

1. Rob Jackson

2. John Somerville

3. Marisa Shea

4. Donald McLean

5. Nick ‘Shower Man’ Seaman

Byte Class

1. Stuart Jennings

2. Joey Gracey

3. Johnny Gracey

4. Joe Roberts
