Consolidated Water CARIFTA Trials Swim Meet

The 4th Annual Consolidated Water CARIFTA Trials Swim Meet takes place this weekend. A full meet, offering all the standard events, it will be run over four days, in the same format as CARIFTA competition, helping the athletes prepare both mentally and physically.

The first session began Wednesday evening, with just two distance freestyle events, the 13YR& Over 800 meter freestyle for girls, and the 1500 meter (roughly a mile, sixty lengths of the Lions 25 metre pool) for boys. These events were targeted to the Senior swimmers.

This evening will see competition in 28 events including the mighty ‘6&Unders’ in some sprint events, while the older swimmers tackle 200 metre events and the grueling 400m Individual Medley.

Saturday is an 8:30 am start with 40 events, while Sunday morning is the final session of the meet with a 9am start and 28 events.

Swimmers are limited to 4 events per session. The meet is the last chance to qualify for CARIFTA. The meet is open to all interested swimmers, but CARIFTA competition is just for those age 11-17yrs as of Dec 31st 2006. Several swimmers have been training hard trying to make the qualifying times to make the team that will represent Cayman in Jamaica this year. Others have been working to improve their times.
