Donning colourful beads and costumes, revellers partied the day and night away to a full roster of live entertainment at the 13-hour long event, which has grown into one of the most eagerly anticipated parties of the year.
For the first time four of Cayman’s radio stations – Vibe, Spin, Rooster and Z99 – combined to ensure a larger-than life event.
Musical entertainment, organised by OneWorld Promotions, ensured the party atmosphere remained ecstatic. Acts included local artist Notch, the Local Motion band, Ratskyn, as well as some of the island’s most in-demand DJs, including DJ Presser, DJ Alexi of Spin FM and DJ Johnny Mack of the Next Level. Music ran the gamut, from reggae to rock, ensuring there was something for everyone.
This year’s theme was Love Generation. Colourful flags were strung up around the venue, as organisers aimed to celebrate the global village. Partygoers were encouraged to bring their flags, wear their country’s colours and embrace the ‘free-love’ fashion of the 1970s.
VIP ticket holders crammed onto the upstairs balcony at Kaibo, throwing out beads to the crowds below while enjoying the birds-eye view. Revellers indulged in food and drink, while competitions throughout the day added a frisson of excitement.
Attendees were able to enjoy the party safe in the knowledge that transport was provided. A free-ferry service shuttled people to and from SafeHaven throughout the day, often packed to capacity – a sure sign of the event’s popularity.
Since the inaugural event in 1999, thousands of people have passed through Kaibo’s doors for Mardi Gras, keen to revel in the party atmosphere.
Searlina Bodden, on-air personality for Spin FM and creative director for Monster Media, a division of Paramount Media, said she was delighted with how the day went.
‘The Paramount Media team was again extremely pleased with Kaibo Mardi Gras, for the second year running.
‘The energy and music were the best yet. Kaibo, Corona, Vibe/Spin, Oneworld Promotions and Z99/Rooster put on a fantastic show. See you in 2008!’
