According to event organiser, Sandra Lichentstein of Signature Events, some 150 people attended the $200 ticket fundraiser, which included a cocktail reception, three-course dinner, auction and entertainment provided by members of the Cayman National Orchestra.
Prior to speaking at the event, Glover – looking dapper in black-tie – took time to pose for photographs, sign autographs and chat to attendees of the fundraiser.
The auction proved a lively element of the night, raising $15,000. Numerous items went under the hammer, including Tiffany & Co. jewellery, artwork by Guy Harvey and a Tortuga Rum cake gift basket. A mirror decorated with sea shells donated by Heather McLaughlin fetched the highest bid at $4,000.
Glover arrived in Cayman on the Friday prior to the event. The plight of children infected with HIV/AIDS has been at the core of Glover’s advocacy efforts and the actor speaks on the subject across the globe.
At press time, Ms Lichentstein was unable to confirm the exact amount raised on the night.
