Live healthier by resolving conflict

Daily, each of us may encounter situations that create conflict. It might be the differing opinion of a co-worker, family member or neighbour. It might be through a spoken word misunderstood. It could be a breach of boundary or privacy.

Whatever the cause, unresolved conflict can create havoc within the physical and emotional body leading to imbalance, depletion of the immune system, loss of positive energy and eventually disease.

Think of a situation or time of tension between you and another person. Each time you saw that person, recall what happened:

Physically

Did you feel blood pressure increase, temperature rise or the cold feeling of dread? Did you buff up muscles and lengthen in stature to create a physical presence of ‘standing up to the other’.

Or, did you shrink back, scurry around the supermarket aisle in hopes that the person did not see you. Whatever your response, there was physiological reaction down to a cellular level.

Emotionally

Consider the emotional effects of unresolved conflict. People who go to bed angry, or with worrisome conflicts, often toss and turn with thoughts and emotions that undermine health and wellness.

The employee dreading work because of office conflicts may wake up with symptoms of a cold or flu. Medical research tells us that the manifestation of disease and symptoms of disease can often be linked to unresolved conflict.

It is easy to spot people bedraggled by tension and conflict; their very countenance reflects back the tension. Imagine what must be happening on a cellular level.

Identifying and resolving areas of unresolved conflict in our lives, and within ourselves, is an important step to take in bringing about greater peace, health and harmony.

Conflict resolution often requires you to be the person to take the first step to release the pressure valve, speak the kind word or offer an apology.

Who benefits? You do. Health will flourish. Tensions will be resolved.

Make conflict resolution part of your healthy living plan.
