7 On Fire

Set your taste-buds on fire. The Ritz-Carlton has introduced a fiery night bound to tantalise the palette.

Held every Thursday, 7 En Fuego, at the Ritz-Carlton’s steakhouse 7, is a sizzling Latino-style night filled with Latin and South American flair, which is bound to get foodies all fired up.

As you would expect, no one puts on the Ritz quite like the Ritz, and guests are greeted with an abundant choice of the finest food, all prepared in front of their eyes.

The all you can eat buffet night – priced at a surprisingly easy on the wallet $55 – includes three sumptuous courses and a welcome mojito or caipirinha.

Go easy on lunch. You’ll need plenty of room if you want to do the buffet justice and sample everything there is to offer. And there really is plenty.

For starters there’s soup, a salad bar and a ceviche action station with a dazzling selection of seafood on offer. The chefs are dab hands and will mix up whatever you desire in lightening speed. The options seem almost limitless.

For mains, there’s the fiery outside barbeque. Try some freshly barbequed chorizo sausage, Chimichurri steak, pork ribs, free range chicken, mahi mahi, achiote corvine wrapped in banana leaves and Caribbean lobster tail all grilled to perfection.

Conveniently, everything comes in bite-sized morsels meaning there’s room on the plate to sample a little bit of everything. There are plenty of sauces for dipping; but the meats are so infused with flavours they are equally tasty on their own. The steak, lobster and chorizo were so tasty I couldn’t help but sneak up for seconds.

For sides try some oven roasted vegetables, sweet potato wedges, backed potatoes with all the trimmings, Mexican-style rice and corn on the cob.

Be sure to save enough room for dessert. The flambé station was a particular favourite of this reviewer, but if you prefer something else, there are plenty of other options to cool the palette.

To add some additional flair to the night, a fire dancer provides entertainment, while a roaring open fire adds a fiery backdrop.

Having savoured, and thoroughly enjoyed, the offerings of 7 En Fuego, myself and my dinner companions, sat-back sipped our caipirinhas and were transported to a Latino world. Enjoy.
