Weight loss contest kicks off Saturday

If you’re feeling a little guilty since straying from your New Year’s resolution to shed those extra pounds, Sports Supply is here to help.

The Galleria Plaza sporting goods store is launching its Biggest Loser competition this Saturday to help those who fell off the fitness wagon get back on track.

‘People want to exercise but sometimes they need a little push,’ said Group Store Manager Ales Cevela. ‘The contest is to help motivate people who want to lose some weight.’

The person who sheds the highest percentage of weight during the two-month contest wins a $1,000 shopping spree at Sports Supply. Second prize is $500 and third prize $250.

On Saturday, contestants weigh-in and have their photo taken. Personal trainers and nutritionists will be on hand to give advice and information. The final weigh-in on 2 June will determine who will claim the title of biggest loser.

Last year’s contest drew around 150 participants, with Jeff Alban winning the title of biggest loser after dropping 37 pounds.

‘The first contest was a great success, and it seems like this one is going to be bigger,’ said Mr. Cevela, adding the store is hoping to stage the contest twice a year.

Saturday’s weigh-in runs from 10am to 7pm.
