Cancer society heads to the Brac

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society and the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association are organising events on Cayman Brac on 21 and 22 April.

Their joint release advised that the weekend of activities will be launched with a free Lunch and Learn session at 11am hosted by CICS and Baptist Health South Florida at the Brac Reef Resort.

Visitors will be offered free health screenings including cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure.

The featured speaker will be Pat Collins, RN from Baptist Health. She will make a brief presentation on pain management. This, the release added, will be followed by a general panel discussion on healthcare issues. Panellists will include Ms Collins, Dr. Sook Yin and Christine Sanders of the Cancer Society and Dr. Reid from Cayman Brac.

Those planning to attend can contact Christine at 916-2575 to reserve places.

Following the luncheon the athletic portion of the weekend, billed as the Sister Islands Swim & Stride Duathlon, begins.

CIASA will hold an 800m sea swim at 3pm on Saturday, 21 April, just west of the Carib Sands dock. The race will end west of the Tiara Beach dock.

The entry fee of $10 includes a t-shirt, swim cap and post-race pizza. Medals will be awarded to age group winners. Registration on race day starts at 1.45pm.

The Cancer Society will be hosting its 2nd Annual Sister Islands Stride Against Cancer event on Sunday, 22 April at 6:30am.

The fun walk will start and end at the Brac Reef Resort and the turnaround point will be Aunt Sha’s. Participants wishing to do a longer walk may do the route twice. The event will cost $10 and includes a t-shirt and breakfast. Registration will be at the Saturday luncheon, at the sea swim or beginning at 6am on the morning of the walk. This is a fun, non-competitive event.

According to the release spot prizes will also be up for grabs.

Frank Flowers is donating a prize of air fare and entry to the Flowers 1-Mile Sea Swim on Grand Cayman in June to the first male and the first female swimmer from the Sister Islands to cross the finish line.
