Fashionistas get ready to feast your eyes on some of Cayman’s hottest design.
Fresh! fashion show takes place this Sunday, at the Harquail Theatre, featuring designs exclusively by Caymanian designers.
The event, a new addition to the roster of Cayfest events, features 10 designers and some 20 models, from 11 months to 30 years of age, who will strut down a purpose-built catwalk.
‘This isn’t a show for people who just throw on items of clothing because they have to,’ said Donna Reid, organiser of the event and programmes manager with the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, producers of Cayfest. ‘This is a show for lovers of fashion.’
Designers range from the established – including Tamara Hill, whose clothing line, Crown Atelier, has found international success and has been worn by the likes of celebrity Nicole Richie and E!TV presenters Maria Menounos and Debbie Matenpolous – to aspiring designers showcasing their work for the very first time.
Clothing will run the gamut from kids, formal, street, casual and beachwear. Jewellery by Horacio Esteban, will be modelled at the event, as well as accessories by Anjuli Muttoo.
Other designers include: One Tree Four Five creator Luigi Moxam, Kidan Brooks, Faye Lazarus, Mitzi Callan, Nahkiesia Ebanks, Vinnette Glidden, Kelly Williams and Lessaneo Ebanks. Local clothing boutique, La Chic, will also have some of their fashions represented.
The show, at 6pm, will be interspersed with entertainment by local performers, including Karen and Devon Edie and Dance Unlimited.
‘Everyone is really excited about this event,’ enthused Ms Reid. ‘This is the first time there has been a fashion show in Cayman featuring designs exclusively by Caymanian designers. This really is a great opportunity for everyone to come out and see what fantastic talent we have.’
Each designer will showcase at least six items of clothing of which two pieces are to be inspired by Cayman or use indigenous materials.
Adding an additional frisson of excitement to the event, Caymanian model and Victoria Secret catwalk queen, Selita Ebanks, will make an appearance at the event, as well as Treveen Stewart, 2005 winner of the Cayman model search Faces of Summer, and now signed with New York Models agency. Kingsley Cooper, chairman of Pulse model agency in Jamaica will also attend the show.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Call the Box Office on 949-5477.
