The State Opening of the 2007/08 Session of the Legislative Assembly will take place today.
The primary business of the House of this meeting is the Budget.
The proceedings will begin with the arrival of Governor Stuart Jack and his wife Mariko at 9.45am. Mr. Jack will then inspect the Guard Honour before entering the Legislative Assembly building and delivering the Throne Speech.
The Throne Speech will be followed by the Budget Address, which will be delivered by Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson.
Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts will then deliver the Government’s Policy Statement.
The Government will then bring a motion to adjourn the House until Friday 4 May, which will give Members time to prepare their debates on the budget.
The Budget is expected to address a number of capital spending projects, however Mr. Tibbetts has said there are no new revenue measures contained in the Budget for the coming financial year.
