Appleby strengthens practice

Appleby has further strengthened its Cayman office Corporate and Commercial practice with the hire of three senior associates – Anna-Lise Bailey, Jonathan Law and Naveen Thakur.

Ms Bailey is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and University College, London and has over seven years post qualification experience having practiced law in both the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands at other leading offshore firms.

She joins the Banking & Asset Finance Team and advises clients on general aspects of banking and finance law, with an emphasis on asset finance, corporate finance and syndicated loans. Her practice also extends to general corporate law matters including capital markets, bond issues and ship and aircraft registration, states a press release.

Joining Appleby from a rival offshore firm, funds specialist Mr. Law has over 10 yeas post qualification experience advising many of the world’s leading institutions in the financial services sector with a focus on hedge funds and private equity funds and is member of the Funds & Investment Services Team. His practice also includes advising in relation to more general corporate matters and corporate finance transactions. Jonathan is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and has practiced with leading commercial firms in both the UK and Bermuda.

Mr. Thakur also joins the Funds and Investment Services Team. Naveen has over six years post qualification experience gained in India and the Middle East. Naveen’s main areas of practice include mutual funds, segregated portfolios, limited partnerships and general corporate law; he also has a keen interest in Islamic Shariah law and has a wide range of experience in Islamic finance transactions and funds. Naveen is a graduate of the New York University School of Law and the University of Delhi. After gaining a solid understanding of Appleby operations, Naveen will be transferring to the Mauritius office, where he will continue his corporate law practice with a particular focus on Islamic finance and investment funds.
