Grand Cayman (21 May 2007) – The Cayman Islands Sailing Club (CISC) has announced that Scotiabank has signed on as the title sponsor for the annual National Youth Sailing Championships.
The regatta, to be held on 1-2 September 2007, is the premier youth sailing event of the year. It will determine Cayman’s best under-18 sailors.
Races will be sailed in Lasers, Bytes, Fevas, Picos and Optimists.
As the local youth sailing scene progresses, in future years the Scotiabank regatta will determine the Cayman Islands’ entry into the World Youth Sailing Championships.
The regatta is also part of the ‘Sail the World Celebration’, a global initiative whereby each country organises a sailing event to celebrate the centenary of the International Sailing Federation, the sport’s world governing body.
CISC Sailing Director Michael Weber said: ‘We are tremendously grateful that Scotiabank is helping us run this regatta. The event will be fun and challenging for our young sailors and exciting to watch.’
Registration for the Scotiabank National Youth Sailing Championships begins on 1 June. Contact Heather Bradley, the CISC Club Administrator/Manager, at [email protected] to register or for more information.
