Mr. Grant, who has more than 33 years’ experience with the Fire Service, had been acting chief fire officer since October 2005. His responsibilities now include planning, directing and managing all activities related to fire suppression and prevention, and emergency rescue service.

‘I would like to thank the Cayman Islands Government for giving me this opportunity. It is an honour to be fire chief,’ said Mr. Grant. ‘The service has excellent equipment and well-trained staff, and I will continue to keep abreast of the latest trends and education to benefit all Fire Service staff.’

During his time in the service, he has attended the best training facility in the US, as well as trained in the UK. He has enjoyed climbing the ranks of the Fire Service during his time there, starting off as fireman in April 1974. Mr. Grant’s first step into senior management was with his move to deputy fire chief in July 1987.

‘In serving the country, this job is rewarding. Being able to assist someone in times of need, and saving lives or property, is what makes this more than just a job for me,’ he said. ‘I’m also surrounded by professional staff that makes my job as chief much easier. That’s what makes the service strong.’
