30 June, update to Sunday night fires
Two structure fires kept the Cayman Islands Fire Service busy on Sunday evening, with one person injured in a residential blaze on Cayman Brac and a separate commercial fire damaging a clothing store on Grand Cayman.
The first incident occurred at about 6:40 p.m. at Glacier House shopping plaza on Eastern Avenue in George Town. Firefighters from Station 1 responded to reports of a structure fire and found flames and smoke coming from a broken window of an end-unit clothing store, identified as Cyber Closet.
Fire crews forced entry by breaking the front door glass and cutting through security bars before quickly bringing the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring businesses. One commercial unit sustained fire damage, while an adjacent store experienced minor smoke intrusion. No injuries were reported.
Earlier reports from the scene indicated smoke was also visible inside a neighbouring shop, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it spread further.

In a separate incident, firefighters from the Cayman Brac division responded at approximately 7:15 p.m. to a residential structure fire on Palomino Crescent.
Upon arrival, crews found the home engulfed in flames and immediately began firefighting operations, successfully extinguishing the blaze.
Cayman Islands Fire Service station manager Tiffany Ebanks said the occupant sustained burn injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services for further treatment.
“The extent of the damage to the property is being assessed,” Ebanks said. “The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Cayman Islands Fire Service.”
Ebanks also confirmed that there were no injuries in the Eastern Avenue commercial fire, adding that firefighters’ rapid response prevented the flames from spreading beyond the affected unit.
The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
