Windell Wellington Dilbert, 73, appeared in Summary Court on Monday, charged with the 1 June murder of Michael Elliot Ebanks, 40.
No details of the incident were mentioned, but Crown Counsel Richard Hearnden asked Magistrate Nova Hall to order a psychiatric test for the accused man.
Defence Attorney Lloyd Samson advised that Dilbert is heard of hearing. Both Mr. Samson and a court marshal had to repeat the magistrate’s comments to him.
Mr. Samson asked for papers in the matter and suggested a return date of Wednesday, 20 June. The magistrate agreed, although she said it was unlikely the report would be completed by that time.
Mr. Ebanks was found dead at his residence in Courts Road on the evening of Friday, 1 June. Court records confirmed that Dilbert had the same address.
About a dozen people left the courtroom after Dilbert was led from the dock to the holding cells below.
