FirstCaribbean awards US$50,000 scholarship

FirstCaribbean International Bank has awarded Ms Lori Moncrieffe with a two-year overseas scholarship totalling US$50,000.

The scholarship programme was initiated to encourage Caymanians who have completed an Associates Degree and wish to continue their education at an overseas university, states a press release.

Open to applicants interested in pursing a future in banking, finance, accounting, management or marketing, the recipient also gains a work experience opportunity with FirstCaribbean while on study breaks and on a full-time basis following graduation.

Ms Moncrieffe will attend the University of Tampa for the 2007 fall semester, focusing on a major in finance and a minor in marketing. The bank’s scholarship was a perfect match for Ms Moncrieffe as her introduction to Finance came from working with FirstCaribbean in 2003 as a customer service representative prior to commencing full time studies.

Ms Moncrieffe commented that to succeed both academically and professionally, ‘Confidence and determination are key elements, as are setting goals for oneself and also steps for accomplishing your goals. The support of family and friends also plays a major role in the success of ones academic career.’

Ms Glenda Davidowski, Manager of Employee Development with FirstCaribbean International Bank said, ‘FirstCaribbean is proud to support Lori in her pursuit of higher education. We are confident that she will motivate other young Caymanians to seek educational opportunities that will enable them to progress and grow as leaders.’

Ms Moncrieffe added that, ‘the benefits of scholarships help Caymanians realize the opportunities out there that allow them to continue on to a higher education so that they are better equipped for any challenges that may occur in the working environment. When you receive a scholarship you also feel like someone has invested in you, and that creates a drive within you to do your very best.’
