A hard-working team made up of Cayman’s best young ballplayers will compete in a highly competitive overseas tournament next month. Led by Head Coach Stuart Knox, the players have endured months of intense training under a hot sun in order to give them a fighting chance against the tough teams they will face. A proud Knox says his players have answered the challenges he put before them.
‘We have the best in their age group and they are eager and willing to learn,’ he said. ‘What more could a coach ask? They have worked hard for this opportunity.’
The tournament is named the Disney Salute to Baseball and will be held July 2-9 at the Disney Sports Complex in central Florida. There will be 15 teams in the division Cayman will compete in.
‘Our goal is to represent Cayman to the best of our ability, try to win games, and maintain a high level of sportsmanship throughout the tournament,’ said Knox.
Coach Knox expects to face very tough teams in Florida but he has confidence in his boys. He says that Cayman has many very talented players. So much so that he fully expects to see a steep rise in the number of Caymanian players earning baseball scholarships to overseas universities in the coming years.
The Cayman team is seeking last-minute sponsors to help the young players with expenses. Any business or individual interested in assisting may contact Coach Knox via email at: [email protected]
