Former Miss Cayman 2000 is to chair the Miss Cayman pageant, bringing a fresh perspective and renewing interest in the annual pageant, a press release announced.
As committee chairman, Mrs Terry will be responsible for overseeing the local Miss Cayman pageant, as well as the winner’s participation in international pageants. The committee comprises of 14 other members, including deputy chairman Nichelle Welcome.
‘I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to chair the Committee,’ said Mrs Jacqueline Terry. ‘I’ve always felt passionately about the benefits pageants afford our young women. It’s an amazing opportunity for them to develop through various aspects of training – be it public speaking, interviewing techniques, time management and discipline – all of which are characteristics one will need as they continue to develop both personally and professionally.’
Former chairman and honorary member Lynne Whittaker said she welcomes Mrs Terry into her new role. ‘I’ve enjoyed working as chairman for the past six years,’ she said. ‘It’s time to bring new ideas to the committee and pageant, and utilise former Miss Caymans.’
After Hurricane Ivan, the annual pageant was moved to the first three months of the year; now, it will revert back to the latter part of the year. The Miss World pageant is held annually between November and December, and this should be the first international pageant for Miss Cayman to attend.
‘I encourage young ladies who are between 18 and under 27 years of age to participate in this year’s pageant, which is slated to be held in September 2007. Through this pageant, young ladies can obtain a scholarship for tertiary education, travel to different parts of the world, and gain valuable experience that will benefit them throughout their lives,’ Mrs Terry said.
