Passenger vehicle fees slashed

Application fees for public transit vehicle drivers in Cayman will be cut by 50 per cent next month under new regulations approved by the Legislative Assembly.

Cayman Islands law requires anyone who wants to operate a bus, taxi, limousine, omnibus, or tour vehicle to apply for and be granted a permit by the Public Transport Board.

The existing fees for that application will be reduced as follows: from $150 to $75 for vehicles that can carry less than 10 passengers; from $200 to $100 for vehicles that can carry 10-25 passengers; from $250 to $125 for vehicles that can carry more than 25 passengers.

‘This will reduce their operating costs,’ said Minister Charles Clifford, whose office oversees the transport board.

The new fees will take effect 21 days from 22 June, unless a member of the house seeks to oppose the change.
