Farmer’s Market meeting slated for Monday

Organisers of Grand Cayman’s new farmer’s market are asking potential vendors to attend a meeting at 7pm Monday at the Stacy Watler Agricultural Pavilion, Lower Valley.

Contracts, market rules and other information will be available at the meeting, said a GIS press release.

At a planning meeting on 25 June, over 50 local entrepreneurs heard presentation on Market at the Grounds from representatives of the Cayman Islands Agricultural Society and the Department of Agriculture. Minister responsible for Agriculture and Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts was also on hand to lead a discussion on the market, including the types of products that will be sold, rules and a start date.

Those in attendance agreed that the market should be held on a weekly basis, beginning 11 August.

Organisers say Market at the Grounds will have a distinctly Caymanian taste, bringing together local farmers, food producers, processors, bakers, plant nursery owners, crafts-people, and other artisans.

For more information on the market, call the Department of Agriculture’s Marjane Ebanks or Brian Crichlow on 947-3090
