The Cayman Islands Planning Department welcomes three Caymanian students, Alex Conolly, Mikhail McLaughlin and Candace Ransome, to its workplace as summer interns.
The students are all at different stages in their educational careers and are working in different areas of the Planning Department.
Alex Conolly is entering his final year of high school at St. Andrew’s College in Ontario, Canada, and is assisting Clerical Officer Antonio Christian with administrative work including logging applications and other data.
Mikhail McLaughlin is a recent graduate of John Gray High School and has been working since July 5 as a clerical assistant in the Building Control Unit under Permit Clerk, Shiann Powery.
Candace Ransome has returned to Cayman after studying for the past two years in British Columbia, Canada, at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Currently, she is working in the Planning Section under Planning Assistant Darren Enns.
The interns are enthusiastic about the experience they are gaining.
Mikhail said, ‘I’ve only been here a short while but this is a rewarding experience and I can see myself having a career in this department.’
Director of Planning, Kenneth Ebanks hopes that most of their interns will share Mikhail’s thoughts.
‘Each summer we hire several students to assist in various sections of our department. Besides the assistance this provides our staff, the students get practical experience which I hope will encourage them to choose to work in the planning field.’
