Recovery money handed over

Government recently handed over $500,000 to the National Recovery Fund to continue repairing and rebuilding houses that were damaged by Hurricane Ivan.

This is the first portion of an estimated $4 million that government will be giving the NRF to complete works on 118 damaged homes, said a GIS press release.

Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson handed over the cheque to NRF Executive Director Mark Laskin in the Committee room of the Legislative Assembly in the presence of Leader of Government Business Kurt Tibbetts and the fund’s trustees.

‘The instalments will continue as they are needed with a clear understanding that there will be no hold-up in the work schedule,’ Mr. Tibbetts said.

‘Work has already started and as labour becomes more available the volume of work will increase.’
