Cheers Lounge & Restaurant opens its doors

Cheers Lounge & Restaurant, located at the venue formerly known as Ernestos, has opened its doors.

Co-owners Victor Johnson and Garry Bodden hope Cheers, located at The Strand, will provide an enjoyable venue for all to enjoy.

‘We are aiming to provide a comfortable, safe environment with good food. Somewhere where people can sit back, relax and enjoy themselves,’ Mr. Bodden said.

Under new ownership, the lounge and restaurant has shrugged off its former Latin roots, with a re-vamped look and a new menu focusing on seafood, pastas and steak.

Chef Saleem Mohammed, responsible for pulling together the new-look menu, brings over 15 years experience, including five years working alongside Italian chefs on cruise line Carnival.

The reasonably-priced lunch time menu, served from 11am to 6pm, includes a wide selection of tempting appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps and chef’s specialities, including coconut shrimp, New York steak, jerk chicken, cracked conch and fresh catch of the day.

On the ample dinner menu, served from 6pm to 10pm, there’s a wide range of seafood dishes including crab cakes, conch chowder, lobster ravioli, pan seared Chilean seabass, salmon sizzler and turtle steak. Meat lovers can plump for the surf and turf, Moroccan spiced lamb rack or the thyme and kosher salt rubbed pork chop.

The new owners have maintained the basic layout of the 5,700 square foot venue, however have chosen to do away with the cigar room, opening it up to expand the bar area. In addition, the venue is now non-smoking.

‘It was a tough call, but we listened to our customers and it seems that is the trend at the moment, for a no-smoking atmosphere,’ Mr. Bodden said.

Weekly themed nights include a couple’s night every Wednesday, Caribbean night on Thursday, club night Friday and a Latin night on Saturday, with a live DJ spinning the tunes.

The bar offers food all night long, with a late night menu after 10pm, featuring quesadillas, nachos, chicken wings, conch fritters and calamari, as well as daily specials to reflect the theme of the night.
