Three of Cayman’s rising culinary stars will have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents to one of the island’s most passionate ‘foodies’.
Chef Eric Ripert, and the winner of the Top Chef reality TV show, will act as judges at a Cook Off competition, during the weekend of 5 to 7 October at Caribbean Rundown, a press release said..
The Caymanian chefs will participate in the Cook Off competition on the morning of Sunday, 7 October, at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
Bravo’s ‘Top Chef’ – to be announced – will be joined on the judging panel by Chef Eric Ripert and Chef Michael Laiskonis of Le Bernardin, who was named the James Beard Outstanding Pastry Chef for 2007.
The three Caymanian chef finalists selected for the competition are Glenovan Balfore – chef at the oceanfront restaurant 7 at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman – Sean Collins -chef and co-owner of Mise En Place Catering – andPaul Furze – chef at The Brassiere
The winning chef will be invited to spend one week in New York City with accommodations being sponsored by The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. The winner will also complete an internship at Chef Ripert’s Le Bernardin to learn the philosophies and techniques that have earned the restaurant three Michelin stars, the top spot on the Zagat’s list and 20 years of four star New York Times reviews.
The Cayman Cook Off is a highlight of a weekend celebrating food and wine. All inclusive weekend passes are available for $525 per person and include a welcome reception on Seven Mile Beach, a cooking class taught by Eric Ripert, a gala dinner with courses presented by each chef, an opulent Champagne brunch, unique tastings and interactive cooking demonstrations and the opportunity to mix and mingle at the lively poolside Caribbean marketplace.
