CIIB offers business courses

Once again the Cayman Islands Investment Bureau is hosting one of the lead trainers from the Institute of Business Consulting in the UK to train individuals interested in business advising.

‘These courses build on the successful training sessions that we hosted in March of this year, so it’s relevant both for those who missed it and for those who attended before,’ said CIIB Executive Director Mr. Dax Basdeo.

Slated for 8-16 October, there are three courses: Introduction to Business Counseling; Finance for Business Advisors; and Marketing for Business Advisors. Each course runs for two full days, 9am to 5pm, and will be conducted in the CIIB Boardroom at Cayman Corporate Centre on Hospital Road. Lunch is provided.

These courses are open to specialists and professionals in any discipline who would like to share their knowledge with Cayman’s budding entrepreneurs. Among the skills participants will gain are: identifying the needs of the client; a framework for business advising, and how to assist clients in understanding issues related to marketing and finance.

Course instructor Geoff Abbott is a Business Professor at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. He has been a member of the IBC since 1993 and has conducted similar training sessions in the UK and throughout Eastern Europe.

‘We are excited to have such an experienced and knowledgeable trainer such as Mr. Abbott return to provide an advanced level of training for business advisors,’ said Dr. Basdeo, who added that the success of the Bureau’s programmes has been in part due to the wealth of experience of the volunteers the Bureau works with. ‘We therefore welcome the opportunity to work with any individual who has the desire and sees the benefit of encouraging and motivating the entrepreneurs of our islands.’

Participants will receive certificates from the Institute of Business Consulting. A registration fee of $350 is required. A discounted rate of $150 is available for volunteers or individuals representing non-profit organisations.
