Swim Association Set to Start Pirates’ Week with 27th Annual 5k Sea Swim

A Pirates’ Week tradition continues this Saturday, November 10th, as the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association is holding the 27th Annual Pirates’ Week 5k Sea Swim at 8:00am at Governor’s Beach. Registration for the race will be held on the beach prior to the swim from 7:00-7:45am. The course will consist of a 5k loop centred on the Governor’s House. Given the long-distance of the race, there will be a 2 1/2 hr time limit for finishing, and participants under 12 require explicit permission from their parent and swim coach to take part in the race.

The 2nd Pirates’ Week 10k Marathon swim will be held on Monday, November 12th, also starting at Governor’s Beach at 8:00am. All participants who would like to compete in the 10k swim must pre-register from 7:00-7:45am on Saturday, November 10th at Governor’s Beach. A 5 hr time limit will be imposed on this long-distance event.

The Swim Association would like to thank Kirk Freeport, Arabus Boutique and Carmen Martinez from Cayman Rehab Services for their generous financial contribution towards sponsoring the 5k and 10k swims.

The top four finishers in each of 27th Pirates’ Week 5k and 2nd 10k Sea Swims will be awarded plaques provided by the Pirates’ Week Organizing Committee, and the top three male and female finishers in all age groups will be awarded medals. All participants will be provided a CIASA swim cap upon registering, to be worn during the race, as well as T-shirts and refreshments after the race, provided by Gatorade and Le Bleu. Each swimmer who completes the race will be eligible for draw prizes. For more information on these swims, please contact the Open Water Committee: [email protected].
