Butterfield names new deputy

Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited recently welcomed a new deputy managing director to its executive team.

Mike McWatt joined the bank 25 September and was appointed to the board of directors 9 November.

Mr. McWatt will initially have responsibility for direction of the banking division, including delivery of products and solutions to help maximize the Bank’s market position, states a press release.

‘I am very pleased to be joining the bank in the year of its 40th anniversary in the Cayman Islands and at a time when there are so many exciting new initiatives,’ he said. ‘I am looking forward to working with the management team to strengthen and expand the relationships we have with our customers and to help drive performance of all business lines. I am also looking forward to being a part of the bank’s continued growth and success in the Cayman Islands.’

Mr. McWatt originally joined Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited in January 1999 as head of credit and card services. He was promoted to senior vice president, credit risk management in June 2000, a role he took up in the bank’s Bermuda headquarters.

Prior to joining Butterfield Bank, he held several senior management positions in corporate relationship management and risk management with The Toronto Dominion Bank and The Bank of Nova Scotia in Canada.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from McMaster University, an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Windsor, a Canadian Securities Institute Certificate and is a graduate of The University of Western Ontario, Ivey School of Business Executive Program. He is married with two children.
