Eight students from John Gray High School successfully completed the PADI Open Water Course as part of their school studies during the Christmas term.
The scheduled 12-week programme included academic sessions, confined and open water dives to meet the required standard for PADI certification.
The course, run annually by Red Sail Sports, is aimed at promoting diving to Cayman’s youth, which may in the future help them to pursue a career in the Cayman Island dive/water sports industry.
Sunset House Divers supported the programme by supplying the use of their pool facilities, tanks, weights and dive location to facilitate the confined water training and open water dives.
James Dudley, director of training at Red Sail Sports, praised the high level of commitment that the students showed throughout their training; added that this year’s course had been completed in record time and that it had indeed been a pleasure to reward each student with certification.
