A member of the Cayman Islands Fire Service was air lifted to a Miami hospital Wednesday after suffering broken ribs and a damaged pelvis in an accident on Cayman Brac.
The firefighter, identified as Kenroy Martin, was flown from the Brac to the Cayman Islands Hospital on Tuesday evening immediately after the wreck on West End Road.
Medical personnel described his condition as stable, but said additional surgery would be needed and that a decision to transport him to Miami had been made.
Royal Cayman Islands Police said the crash happened around 6pm Tuesday when the fire service van Mr. Martin was in collided with a Ford dump truck which was hauling a trailer.
Fire service officials said Mr. Martin was on duty at the time of the crash, but could not provide further details.
