Little League gears up for auction fundraiser

Little League has earned a special place in Cayman’s heart and recreational life after 17 years of providing a free program to thousands of local kids..

But, the well-used and much-loved ‘Field of Dreams’ is still not paid off. Some of the artificial surface needs replacing and Little League has eight acres of adjacent land still to develop. Strategic decisions, long term needs and plans are being considered, says a League administrator. Thus Little League continues its fund raising efforts.

As another season gets underway, with kids as keen as ever, volunteers old and new are at work organizing another fund raising auction. It’s set for March 8th at the Marriott Resort, Grand Cayman.

On offer will be a tantalizing assortment of goods, services and unique memorabilia; sports and otherwise. The night, famous for fun, is made up of champagne and fine dining, competitive shopping, and friendly rivalries acted out for a great cause.

Auction ‘players’ can go home with coveted sports memorabilia, a Springsteen signed guitar or tickets to a Springsteen concert in April, a Peter Max original, a Volkswagen GTI, jewelry, or even a log cabin vacation! Sponsors and donors are stepping up and still being sought.

Independent, Cayman’s Little League, started as a kids’ co-ed softball program, has grown to a multi-million dollar facility, certainly one of the Caribbean’s best. The four diamond lit fields are also used by schools, adult recreational leagues, baseball, women’s fast-pitch, and recently a White Sox camp, with more of almost all in demand. Demand for field usage exceeds availability, each field used times each evening. Some program graduates are now coaching and signing their own kids up for T-ball.

Corporate and individual support for Little League has been widespread, largely due to the 17 years of the League’s never wavering in its commitment to kids, with an emphasis on sportsmanship and learning. Little League is asking for continued support, as it works to provide a night of great entertainment.

Tickets are $100 each, available as tables of ten. The evening promises to be a sellout, as nearly half the tables have been requested by past auction guests and Little League supporters. To reserve a table, contact 947-1572 [email protected] or [email protected]
