American Idol, gospel singer in concert

American Idol semi-finalist Coffey Anderson is to perform in Cayman’s first major Christian concert of the year, later on this month.

The singer will front ‘Coffey Anderson Live in Concert’ at the Harquail Theatre on Saturday, 15 March.

The musician, who is as comfortable singing gospel as he is country, made it to the penultimate elimination round of the Idol’s second season.

Fans should already be familiar with his rendition of such tracks as ‘Awesome God’ and ‘If Everyone Cared’ and his more secular tracks like ‘Southern Man’ and ‘Brown Eyed Girl’.

Guests will also be treated to the vocal stylings of current Cayman Starquest winner Kathleen Jackman at the event.

Organised by Sunrise Community Church, one of the islands’ newest churches, the show is expected to last around three hours.

Organisers say that they are willing to look into staging another show on Sunday, 16 March if there is sufficient demand.

‘The concert is part of our plan to build island awareness of our church as well as to increase the amount of Christian concerts and entertainment in Cayman,’ said one of the show’s producers Craig Muller. ‘Building a strong Christian community relevant to all ages is on of our many goals.’
