Do you want to lose weight? The Department of Sports is holding a competition that will help residents achieve that goal.
The competition is part of the Department of Sports Honouring Women Month plan. Six women will be selected to participate. Those interested are required to write a short essay – nothing fancy – saying why they should get this opportunity.
‘As part of Honouring Women Month the Department of Sports has put together a programme that it hopes will help six women to shed pounds and increase their self-esteem in the process,’ said Sports Department Women’s Coordinator Merta Day.
‘We wanted to do something new, and lately a lot of women have been approaching me for advice on nutrition and exercise to lose weight,’ she explained.
The programme, called New Beginnings Weight Loss Programme, is geared toward helping six women lose weight without feeling hungry. The winners will develop life skills to help them keep the weight off, learn new concepts in health and wellness and balance under the guidance of Donna Mitchell at Lifestyles. The programme will run for eight weeks.
New Beginnings includes a weekly weigh-in, a nutritious and satisfying meal plan, menus, recipes, motivational presentation, and solutions for everyday challenges, Ms Day said.
The New Beginnings competition is open to women residents only, and entrants have to submit a short explanation or essay on why they would like to lose weight and their goals. The deadline for submission is 18 March. Submissions should be addressed to Merta Day at the Department of Sports or can be dropped off at the departmental office in Queen’s Court or e-mailed to [email protected]. Call Merta Day at 949-7082 or 926-9161 for more information.
