The Cayman Music & Entertainment Association is having its first annual awards ceremony tonight at the Harquail Complex parking lot on an outdoor stage.
This is the main event of the Muzaic concerts. The CMEA will be honouring musicians who have been performing consistently for over the past 40 years.
This year’s award honourees are Julia Hydes, a.k.a. Aunt Julie, who will receive the Icon Award for over 80 years of performing and being a cultural figure in the Cayman Islands. Other honourees are Mr. Howell, Lammie Seymour, Bunny Myles, Andy Martin, Ray Myles, Junior Jennings, Bob Ebanks, Leonard Bodden, Steve Welds, and Edward Solomon.
There will also be over four hours of performances featuring such musicians as Ratskyn, Knotch, Hi Tide, Barefoot Man, Andy Martin, Chuck and Barrie, Blake Hurlstone, Burman Scott, Melvin Augustine, Cardinal Dacosta, JR Douglas, Edward Solomon and Mainstream, Edlin Myles, Coolie the Cool, Gerald Rankin, as well as a special surprise performance.
Highlighting the musical portion of the show will be special reunion performances by CMX5, Bunny Myles and Regeneration and Thanks & Praises.
Tickets are $25 and are available at Funky Tangs and the Harquail Theatre office. Showtime is 7.30pm.
