The Cayman Islands Cancer Society (CICS) together with the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association (CIASA) and the Sister Islands Swim Club (SISC) have announced they will be organising a series of events on Cayman Brac on April 12th and 13th.
The three organisations have once again combined to host the annual two-day Swim and Stride duathlon.
The swim leg of the duathlon is organised by the SISC and CIASA and consists of an 800m sea swim beginning at 3pm on Saturday, April 12th.
The swim will start just west of the dock at Carib Sands and will finish just west of the dock at Tiara Beach. The entry fee is $10 and includes a t-shirt, swim cap, pizza after the race and spot prizes.
Medals will be awarded to age group winners. Registration will take place starting at 2pm on race day at the Carib Sands dock.
The Cancer Society will be hosting the Stride leg of the duathlon on Sunday April 13th with its Stride Against Cancer walk. The walk will start and end at the Brac Reef Resort with the turnaround point at the crossroads by the shops at Foster’s Corner.
The cost of this event is CI$10 and includes a t-shirt, breakfast and an opportunity to win spot prizes. Registration will be at the sea swim between 2pm and 3pm at the Carib Sands dock or beginning at 6:00am at the Brac Reef on the morning of the walk. This is a fun, non-competitive event.
Additionally, the Cancer Society will be hosting a Lunch and Learn session hosted by Baptist Health South Florida at the Brac Reef Resort on Saturday, April 12th.
The featured speaker will be Dr. Nancy Eklund from Baptist Health. She will make a brief presentation on ‘Navigating Your Course to Health’ which will be followed by a more general panel discussion on healthcare issues.
Panellists will include Dr. Eklund, and medical practitioners from Cayman Brac.
There is no charge to attend the luncheon which will begin at 11am with free health screenings including cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure. If you are planning to attend you are asked to contact Christine at 916-2575 to reserve your space.
