Violators netted

An operation designed to identify drivers who flout the traffic law resulted in a number of offences being detected by police on Friday.

Officers from the Traffic Management Unit conducted the operation, which saw a number of private vehicles stopped and checked as well as dump trucks carrying heavy loads inspected.

The operation resulted in eight people being warned for intended prosecution for driving with tinted windows (outside the limits of the law), five offences of driving with expired registration and certificate of road worthiness, three tickets were issued for defective tyres and failing to display a coupon, three persons were caught not wearing their seatbelts and three people were asked to produce their documents at a later date.

‘We know traffic matters are of concern to the George Town community,’ commented Inspector Derrick Elliot of the Traffic Unit. ‘These types of visible operations show people that we are tackling traffic matters head on, and also send a warning to people that if their cars or documents are not in order they are likely to get caught.’
