Nominations are now being accepting for the 15th Annual National Arts and Culture Awards.
Staged by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, the awards recognise those who have made significant contributions to Caymanian culture and heritage, achieved varying degrees of artistic merit, and have given support to the work of CNCF.
Nominations close 16 May.
Individuals, groups and institutions are eligible for nomination for the Radley Gourzong Lifetime Achievement Award and the Cultural Heritage Award.
The artistic awards are not restricted to those people who have worked with the Cultural Foundation.
‘In order to make the National Arts and Culture Awards as inclusive as possible, cultural and heritage organizations are being asked to make nominations for the artistic awards,’ said CNCF Director of Marketing Charles Glidden.
To be considered for the Radley Gourzong Lifetime Achievement award the nominee must have, over the long term, demonstrated a longstanding commitment to promoting, sustaining or further developing a Caymanian artistic tradition such as dance, music and craft; or produced a substantial body of work over time that demonstrates a local cultural focus and/or draws on local artistic traditions, techniques or materials; or through their collective works, helped to advance appreciation of our local cultural heritage, local art forms, and/or awareness and understanding of local cultural issues.
Candidates eligible for the Cultural Heritage Award will produce a single work or series of works that makes a significant contribution to promoting, sustaining or further developing a Caymanian artistic tradition; or promotes the artistic integrity of work with a local cultural focus, or which draws on local cultural traditions, techniques, and materials; or in a significant way promotes thought and discussion on local cultural issues; or contributes significantly to the development of Caymanian culture, both through their own work and through efforts to share their knowledge and expertise through exhibits, lectures, demonstrations and workshops.
The National Arts and Culture Awards ceremony is on 26 June at the Harquail Theatre.
