Scottish rugby icon Gavin Hastings will be in Cayman 11-12 July to host the Cayman Rugby Union Annual Players Dinner and Golf Scrumble.
The dinner will take place 11 July at the Marriott Beach Resort. The golf event will take place the next day at the Britannia Golf Club.
Hastings held the record for most points scored in a Rugby World Cup until last year. During the 2007 World Cup, England’s Jonny Wilkerson broke Hastings’ mark of 227 points in the quarterfinals against Australia.
Hastings had a nine year career and was a stable of the Scottish national team. Hastings had 61 international caps with 20 as captain. Hastings is also the all-time leading points scorer for Scotland and a number of UK clubs, including British and Irish Lions and Watsonians.
Hastings’ visit comes after Cayman hosted the opening of the 2011 RWC qualifiers in April. That event had much hoopla as International Rugby Board officials came to the island accompanied by the RWC trophy.
In a press release the Cayman Rugby Football Union stated that it was ‘excited and honoured to have Gavin Hastings on-island to host two of our most eagerly anticipated annual functions.’
Tables for the dinner are still available and spaces remain open for the scrumble. Those interested in signing up for either are asked to contact Dave Hoptroff at [email protected].
