Open mike for poets at Floetry

Poets and writers met at Books & Books last Wednesday week for an informal open mike session.

The event, named Floetry, invited poets to read their work in an open forum.

Nasaria Suckoo Chollette, Damien Dilbert, Laura Butz, Big J, Chantal Pierson, Angelica Borden, Hylton Grace and eight-year-old Lyle Peart were among the 40 or so gathered guests who took to the stage to share their work.

Surrounded by books and materials to inspire guest’s inner artisan, and with refreshments provided, the bookstore at Camana Bay provided the ideal venue.

Books & Books employee Knolis Scott Rodriguez organised Floetry after seeing a demand for such an event.

‘There isn’t really any forum for local poets or writers to share their work. There is such a wealth of talent in Cayman and Books & Books offers an ideal forum.

‘The evening was a great success and we hope to turn Floetry into a monthly event. We have a tentative date set for mid August.’
