Josue Perez-Carrillo has a different attorney representing him on a murder charge, but the preliminary inquiry date of 19 September has not changed.
Carrillo is charged with the murder of Martin Gareau, 47, in May. Mr. Gareau’s body was found at his home in Beach Bay on 20 May.
Last week Attorney Edward Renvoize applied to come off record for Carrillo. He asked that legal aid be reassigned to another firm.
On Tuesday this week, Attorney Anthony Akiwumi confirmed he was representing Carrillo. He agreed to the September PI, saying the defence was quite keen to get this matter dealt with as soon as possible.
If the PI reveals sufficient evidence to put the defendant to trial, the matter will go to Grand Court. The next session of Grand Court begins on 1 October.
Crown Counsel Nicola Moore said the pathologist who examined Mr. Gareau’s body was expected to be available for the 19 September PI.
Mr. Gareau, a Canadian national, had resided and worked in Cayman since October 2004.
Carrillo, 28, is a Honduran national.
