From Within VI; the exhibition that is made up of works encompassing the eight outreach programmes of the National Gallery, opened yesterday.
The exhibition includes a wide variety of work from pencil to oil, acrylic and watercolour.
The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands provides non profit outreach programmes developed to offer an opportunity for youth and adults to create and express themselves. These programmes also help to develop and strengthen artistic, personal and social skills by being in a positive environment where it is easy to concentrate and receive positive motivation.
Outreach Programmes includes Inside Art (HM Fairbanks Prison) where the inmates unite weekly to learn skills in the visual arts, Art Zone (District Programme), reaching out to the various districts with a variety of new programmes, Art Alliance (Bonaventure Boys Home) introduces media arts such as photography, film making, editing, and the basic understanding of creating meaning through form and Art Unbound (HM Northward Prison) which offers weekly lessons in painting, drawing, sculpting, and carpentry merging the two facilities of Eagle House and Northward together encouraging a cross curricular mentorship from the older participants to the younger participants.
An accompanying ‘From Within VI’ lunchtime lecture will be held on Wednesday, 24 September at 12.15pm through 12.45pm. The lunchtime lecture will focus on an aspect of the exhibition and discuss the creative process of the outreach participant’s work. A light lunch will be provided.
