Values change

If the government of the Cayman Islands wishes to treat LGBT citizens as second class citizens, that is a matter for the citizens of the Caymans to decide.

However, as editor of Out in Jersey magazine (of New Jersey), I will do my best to ensure our publication alerts our 26,000 LGBT readers to the fact that they should think twice before spending their vacation dollars in a country that may smile at their faces but behind their backs thinks of them as undeserving of equality and treats its own LGBT citizens accordingly.

Your leadership has stated they do not wish to change traditional Cayman values.

May I point out that slavery was once a ‘value’ in the Caymans, as was the second class status of women – for but two examples. You changed those values. It is past time to change your values in this regard also.
