The Cayman Islands Red Cross has launched a financial appeal to assist those in dire need in Haiti, which was hit hard by hurricanes Gustav, Hanna and Ike.
The floods have swept away homes, crops, cattle and household belongings of hundreds of thousands of people.
There is an urgent need for drinking water, good, basic relief items and medical assistance as well as shelter materials.
Inaccessibility of many regions means the full impact is unknown.
The best possible way to assist is by contributing financially so that the necessary items get to those in need.
The International Red Cross is on the ground working along with the Haitian Red Cross and other relief agencies and the government to ensure that the best possible assistance is being given.
Contributions can be made at Bank of Butterfield to account No. 02-201-035054-01 Haiti Relief or direct contributions can be sent to the Cayman Islands Red Cross.
